Forest School Week Two
Week Two in the forest was superb! A huge thank you to our parent volunteer Ciara McQuillan for coming along and helping out this week.
We started off with some warming hot chocolate as we enjoyed our break under the canopy on the forest floor. We re-capped some of our learning from the previous week and shared our follow-up classroom activities with Kim and Joan.
Our first task was to work in pairs and build a tower using sticks from the forest floor. We found long, short, heavy and light sticks and branches to build our towers. We had to balance the sticks and branches carefully to make sure that our tower didn't collapse - lots of early measure mathematical language development taking place!
Last week some of the children led the learning by investigating bugs that they found on the forest floor, this week we developed that learning by going on a bug hunt. Using plastic spoons, cups and bug viewers, we gently dug up parts of the forest floor in our search for creatures. We made some fantastic discoveries such as snails, caterpillars, centipedes, spiders, worms, ants, slugs and beetles.
We made creatures using clay and materials that we found on the forest floor.
Some even needed a well earned break in the hammock after all that hard work!
The next day, back at school, we wrote a sentence to describe out clay creatures.
