Crazy for Caterpillars
This term we explored the topic of Living Things. Along with growing spinach and peas from seed to plant we also explored the life cycle of a butterfly, and what better way to learn about the life cycle than observing first hand what happens. Our baby caterpillars arrived, very small and wriggly, we observed them everyday and talked about the changes we observed. They grew into very fat and hairy caterpillars, it took almost 3 weeks for the caterpillars to eat enough food to build their cocoon. While in their cocoon we couldn't see any of the magic that helped the caterpillars change into butterflies, we had to wait 2 more weeks, but we were very lucky to be in school to see the last butterfly emerge from its cocoon!
