🐛🐛The story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle was a favourite among the Reception/P1 class this term.
The excitement and wonder at observing the class caterpillars go through the life cycle of growing and changing from caterpillar to butterfly was very real.

This topic created so much learning across the curriculum. From story sequencing in literacy, to days of the week, counting fruit and symmetry butterflies in numeracy. In the arts the children explored making playdough caterpillars, printing caterpillars with loose parts to digital art caterpillars on See-saw.

Observing the changing process in real time helped the children understand life cycles in the world around us.

The were sad to see the butterflies go, but happy knowing they have an important environmental job to do. We think the butterflies appreciated the lovely flowers planted by the eco-schools before they went on their way 🦋🦋
